Martha Kohl has worked at the Montana Historical Society since 1995, most recently as Outreach and Interpretation Program Manager. She received both her BA and MA in history from Washington University in St. Louis. She began her career in public history at the Missouri Historical Society, where she served as editor for the quarterly magazine Gateway Heritage.

She started at the Montana Historical Society as the editor of the Montana Historical Society Press. Later, she joined the Outreach and Interpretation team as a historian. Among other projects, she oversaw publication of Montana: Stories of the Land, the Society’s award-winning middle-school Montana history textbook. She is also the author of I Do: A Cultural History of Montana Weddings and the editor of Beyond Schoolmarms and Madams: Montana Women’s Lives, both published by the Montana Historical Society Press.
