A Farmer's Life
Notes from Terhune Orchards |
Gary Mount, was born and raised in Princeton, New Jersey; and is now an accomplished business owner and farmer. He graduated Princeton University in 1966, married high school sweetheart Pam Hasenzahl, and they served in the US Peace Corps for three years. He and Pam have raised three children, two of whom have also joined the farm business. Having grown up on a Princeton fruit farm, being a full-time fruit grower has been Gary's life's delight for almost 50 years. Gary’s new book, A Farmer’s Life, shares his interest and joy in farming with all readers from` reminiscences of boyhood on the farm to stories of Gary's growth of farming and using modern technology. In his many years of farming and growing fruit, Mount has made it a mission to serve his community. Beginning as a member of the New Jersey State Board of Agriculture from 1983-87—at the time the youngest member ever, to serving two terms on the State Agricultural Development Committee, which administers farmland preservation efforts, he also served 11 years on the board of directors (the longest of any member) for the International Fruit Tree Association and continued as chair of the association’s research committee (over 20 years). Through out Gary's accomplished farming career he has earned several awards including being named the 2005 Apple Grower of the Year by American/Western Fruit Grower magazine. In 2008 he was recognized for Distinguished Service to New Jersey Agriculture, and in 2012 was inducted into the International Fruit Tree Association Hall of Fame. |
