Montana Moments

ABOVE: A perfectly ripe huckleberry: delicious! Montana's "hucks" grow in habitats from 2,000 feet to above 11,000 feet in elevation, but they stubbornly refuse to be domesticated - you simply have to get out into the wild country to find them.

LEFT: Hell Roaring Creek, along with Swift Creek and Lazy Creek, flows into Whitefish Lake - a 7-mile-long pristine lake popular for outdoor recreation. Autumn brings crisp, cool mornings and splashes of brillant color from the many deciduous trees and shrubs in the area.

BELOW: Grizzly bears feed on vegetation and insects 90 percent of the time, searching out berries, roots, grasses, mushrooms, bugs, invertebrates, and fruit. They will also eat fish, carrion, and mammals when they can find them.
