| It was a hard life and we just couldn't find enough to eat. We curled up next to each other and tried to stay warm. All we had was each other. My brother would protect me from danger and I tried to do the same. But sometimes I was too scared to do anything but shiver and shake. One day when we were out trying to scavenge food, we got trapped in a cage. The door swung shut and latched. We scratched and dug, but hard as we tried, we couldn't get out. -from pages 6-8 |

Donna Cochran was born, raised, and lives her life in Montana. During her career she taught elementary school with a passion for teaching reading and enriching her students' lives through literature. Before this book, it was always a dream of hers to write a picture book for the primary grades. Today she and her husband are retired and enjoy time with their children, grandchildren, and friends. |
