David Muench's Timeless Moments
Grand Canyon National Park

I have a passion for seeking the "timeless moment," that slice of time between then and now when my camera shutter stops time. Photography represents the past meeting the future in the now - when that one moment becomes eternal. A photographic image represents a memory, closely tied to my sensory impressions of a place. Done well, that one shutter click allows me to glimpse back into the whole story that so intrigued me.

I find the Grand Canyon's forms and foregrounds as thrilling as its famous wide vistas. I'm fascinated by form versus light and contrast - where my eye goes. I force my equipment to work in new ways to make the images I visualize. I might photograph landscapes with a telephoto lens to emphasize form, or hone right in on a group of cobbles under a running stream. I look for ways to show the unexpected, the unusual frame that defines the feeling of a place.
