Idaho Wildlife Impressions

"Mountain lions, or cougars, have perhaps the largest historic range of any land mammal in the Western Hemisphere. At one time, they ranged from northern British Columbia to the southern tip of South America. Mule deer are their favorite prey, but they will eat a wide variety of animals, as well as some plants."

These California bighorn rams in the Jack's Creek drainage in southwestern Idaho's Owyhee County are a subspecies of the Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep found elsewhere in the state. California bighorn sheep had disappeared from Idaho and surrounding areas by 1940 but were successfully reintroduced over a period of many years beginning in 1963. Interstate 84 across southern Idaho is considered the border between California bighorns to the south and Rocky Mountain bighorns to the north."
