North Carolina
A Photographic Journey

"Connemara was the home and farm of Pulitzer Prize–winning poet and Abraham Lincoln biographer Carl Sandburg and is now recognized as the Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site. Sandburg's wife Lillian originally scouted the property as a home for her goatherd; the couple lived on the 262-acre Flat Rock farm until his death in 1967. Lillian sold the estate the following year to the National Park Service to preserve his legacy."

"Spectacular vistas are a hallmark of Chimney Rock State Park, a popular natural attraction in Rutherford County. Several movies have immortalized the park's majestic scenery, including the film The Last of the Mohicans."
-from page 29

"An aerial view of Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge shows shimmering water surrounding the island habitat for the estimated 350 different migratory bird species that pass through each year. The refuge is known as a 'Birder's Paradise' where waterfowl, shorebirds and wading birds can be easily seen and identified."
