Western Ranch Life in a Forgotten Era
by Francie Brink Berg
and Anne Brink Sallgren Krickel
and Jeanie Brink Thiessen
published by Flying Diamond Books
- Sisters Francie Brink Berg, Anne Brink Sallgren Krickel, and Jeanie Brink Thiessen take readers on a journey into real-life ranching with personal narratives describing cattle drives in blizzards, fending off coyotes in the badlands, and training horses on the ranch. Their story also tells a social history of ranching in Montana and how events shaped the Brink Ranch. Stories take readers through the pioneer days to the hard times of the Great Depression, to World War II and battles on the home front, up to modern-day ranching in Montana. Montana Stirrups, Sage and Shenanigans is an Old West epic with modern flair, told with an abundance of Western humor and emotion; it is a lively story of resourcefulness, courage, hard work, and a legacy of Western traditions.
