"There are definitely animals here," said Dad. "We're going to learn about them from their scat and tracks."

"Scat?" said Michael. "What's scat?"

"Scat is the word hiker and trackers use for animal poop," Mom said. "Look over here."

"Footprints!" said Michael.

"And something else, too," added Mom. "Beaver scat."

"It looks like little pieces of wood," said Emily.

"Beavers gnaw on wood all the time," said Dad. "Their scat has lots of wood chips in it."
