"The perennial stream in Slickhorn Canyon flows in a sheet over polished limestone near its confluence with the San Juan River. In the upper reaches of the canyon, attentive hikers may find numerous Ancestral Puebloan ruins, including an intact kiva with its original roof."

"Artist Robert Smithson created this 1,500-foot-long basalt-and-earth artwork, Spiral Jetty, when the Great Salt Lake was at a very low level in 1970 and it was almost immediately submerged. As water has risen and fallen over the seasons, the appearance of the fiddlehead-fern-shaped walkway changes. The earthwork began emerging from the receding water in 2002 (above, top). Amid the wind-chopped lake water, the earthwork’s spiral was surrounded by a salty white crust (above, bottom)."
